Hydraulic Cylinders / Jacks

Hydraulic Cylinders:

• These are used to give linear force through linear stroke in any hydraulic based system
• These are also known as linear hydraulic motors
• These cylinders have many applications in hydraulic machinery and engineering vehicles

Hydraulic cylinder comprises following parts:

Cylinder Barrel : A seamless forged pipe that is ground and/or honed internally

Cylinder Bottom : In most cylinders, barrel and bottom are welded together

Cylinder Head : Cylinder head connected to barrel with sort of simple lock

Piston : Piston is short metal component that separates two sides of cylinder barrel internally and is machined with grooves to fit elastomer/metal seals

Piston Rod : It is cold-rolled steel that attaches to piston and extends from cylinder through rod-end head

Rod Gland : It is an area interfaced between rod and head that is effective in preventing pressurized oil from leaking

Other Parts : There are several other parts like seals, cylinder bottom connection, cushions

Hydraulic Jack:

• It is a device that is used for lifting heavy equipment
• These jacks find application in automobile industry
• Most common forms include garage jack, car jack, floor jack and others
• Hydraulic jacks assist in providing more lift over greater distances
